V. Overviews of Problems
Instruments - Jimmy Voyles
Discussed general instrument data quality concerns that don't
fit in DQRs, need to be captured in data quality
expectations in handbooks.
Will make sure handbooks get updated. Wants to work with
mentors to eliminate duplicate effort. Randy suggested
having a mentor meeting at STM.
Robin: Need to review reporting forms, and if we need to do away
with PIFCARDQR we will.
Jim: With transition to ACRF, we are bringing in more
non-ARMese speaking people and need to make data quality
more accessible to them. Need a plan.
Raymond: looking at places to allow users to submit
comments/feedback. Might need something like that
specific on data-quality.
Jimmy: goes to IMMS when he needs to find out info on
instrument. Need to have concise.
Starting to work with Jim on RHUBC2 instrumentation.
ARM Operations - Doug Sisterson
Engineering - Jim Mather
RHUBC2 is now an IOP (OSC) going to Chile in 2009 Aug/Oct., will use
some pieces of AMF, some spares, some TBD, expect column of
WV 0.1 mm in high desert. AERI-ER is key, surface rad, met,
no radar, but MPL to mask high clouds. Goal IR in FIR, need
extra instruments (NASA) beyond AERI-ER range.

Developing tools to catch things earlier, e.g. with Radar
DQ, will be at Radar DQ meeting (hosted by Sean Moore).
Norfolk STM will have a Radar meeting on Thu.
Will make rejected DQ-paper into Technical Report, then boil
papers into one concise paper referring to the tech-report
for details.

Rick and Jim, out next week.
Randy and Rick envious of Jim's adventure in the rarefied air, high up
in the Andes, the realm of the gods in Chile and apparently
some savvy potato farmers that can predict the weather well
by looking at the brightness of stars. And some big
astronomical observatories including some in the FIR. Jim
will talk to some of those folks with their heads in the
stars.
