Instrument Mentor Monthly Summary Report for VCEIL: 05/2010
1. Data Review:
NSA: The data were generally good at C1 and C2.
TWP: The data were generally good at C1, C2, and C3.
GRW: The data were generally good at M1.
2. Instrument Performance Issues and Trends:
NSA: The baud rate at C1 of the computer, instrument, and software was changed from 9600 to 4800 (same as C2) on 5/4.
TWP: The CT-View software at C3 was configured on 5/1.
3. Current Task Status:
Changed the baud rate from 9600 to 4800 to match the VCEIL at C2. The frequency of the '?' characters decreased but did not end. The manufacturer said the problem could be the CPU board.
BCR-1647 (Replace VCEIL with ARRA ceilometer) and ECO-765 (ARRA Boundary Layer Cloud System)
The new ceilometers were shipped from SGP to Barrow, Darwin, Graciosa, and ANL.
4. Near-Term Plans:
Update VCEIL Handbook and preventative maintenance procedures.
Update mentor quality control plotting routines.
5. Accomplishments:
Updated ECO-784 to give the status of ingest development for the ARRA ceilometer to match current capabilities.
Assisted with EWO-13081 to provide Lidar support for ICECAPS field campaign. The ceilometer was received at Summit, Greenland with standard Vaisala 2-m power and signal cables. Longer, cold-weather cables were purchased and delivered to Scotia, NY on 5/27.
